Employer: Meadowsend Consulting Company Location: Washington, Vermont Application deadline: April 15th, 2024 Full position description and application instructions Summary: Meadowsend is seeking a forestry technician to join our team for the summer. The position is a full-time, temporary, 12-week summer work experience that will offer a qualified candidate a unique opportunity to work in the field of forestry. Forestry technicians support our four field foresters on a diverse set of projects. Technicians will assist with boundary line maintenance, forest inventory and resource assessment, forest management planning, active forest stewardship projects (timber sale layout and wildlife management projects), timber stand improvement, recreational trail development, GIS mapping, brook trout habitat enhancement projects, and much more. The majority of the work (~80%) will be conducted in Northern Vermont with the remaining project work being conducted in New Hampshire and southern VT. The forestry technician will primarily be working within an 1-2 hour driving radius from Washington, VT. Applicants should apply to Ryan Kilborn and Matthias Nevins. Employer: Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission Location: Albany, NY Application deadline: Open until filled Full position description and application instructions Description of Responsibilities: The Field Ecologist and Entomologist provides technical and scientific support for conservation initiatives in conservation planning and measures of conservation success (~80%) and develops/coordinates community science projects (~20%). Full position description and application instructions Summary: Directly oversee the work of the Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program (NHESP) scientists, habitat managers, and data management staff. Aid in administering and guiding policy for the Program, including its regulatory review work under the MA Endangered Species Act. Oversee species recovery, conservation planning and prioritization, inventory, research, habitat restoration and management projects to conserve the Commonwealth’s endangered, threatened, and special concern species and exemplary natural communities. Develop and implement conservation initiatives, seek and obtain funding, and coordinate NHESP’s conservation efforts. Job Duties Include:
  • Aid the Assistant Director in administering the Program, including setting policy, developing procedures, identifying priorities, budgeting, and securing funding. Assist with development and management of grant applications.
  • Oversee the Program’s inventory, monitoring, research, and planning to conserve and enhance the Commonwealth’s biodiversity, particularly its endangered, threatened and special concern species and exemplary natural communities.
  • Oversee the Program’s management and recovery efforts for state-listed species and their habitats as well as its related conservation initiatives, including but not limited to compilation and analysis of biological data on rare species populations and habitats, species habitat mapping, and the application of these data to its habitat protection, management and regulatory review work. Coordinate the Program’s periodic review and evaluation of individual species status for inclusion on or deletion from the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act (MESA) list.
  • Supervise the Program’s scientists, habitat managers, data management as well as other short-term employees, and work with them to identify and implement biodiversity conservation priorities. Supervise the development of methodologies and procedures for the acquisition of scientific data and supervise identification and correction of data deficiencies.
