Ecological forestry is the practice of using logging to make forests healthier. As we ask more and more of our woods, the field of ecological forestry has emerged to put forest ecosystem health first—without losing sight of other economic and resource goals. Guild member and Consulting Forester Alex Barrett of Long View Forest will provide a practitioner’s perspective on how ecological forestry works, and how it is changing how we think about managing forests—from landowner perceptions, to economics, to our society’s reliance on the products and services that forests provide. About Alex: Alex Barrett is a Forester with Long View Forest based in Hartland and Westminster, VT. There, he leads the Forest Management Division which includes 4 other foresters and 4 field technicians. He is a licensed Forester in VT, MA, and NH, and holds a Master of Forestry degree from the Yale School of the Environment. Alex is a member of the Forest Stewards Guild and the Society of American Foresters. His passion is growing, and sometimes harvesting, great trees. Read more about Alex’s work.
