Final Reflection Billy Coffey

June 2, 2026

Written by Billy Coffey, SWVA Crew Leader

The past year at the guild has been great! It seems like just yesterday I walked into the Oxbow Center (our daily homebase) for the first time and today I walked in for the last time. The year has been action packed with learning, training, and hands-on work. It has been a great time seeing the hidden gems of Southwest Virginia.

I greatly appreciate working and learning the ways of the local land. I have traveled much of the United States, and I am glad to be able to spend a year here. Southwest Virginia is such a unique place; from coal country to Sasquatch sanctuary to kayaking to general hiking, they have it all and I am grateful I was able to experience it!

We have learned so much over the past year. I look forward to applying the skills I have learned to the lands of Georgia, where my family lives. I am thankful to the guild and Southwest Virginia for allowing me to spend the time in the region!
