The Timber Management Officer (TMO) prepares forest management and stewardship practice plans for State and private landowners, land/natural resource management agencies, and partners. They direct and supervise the District timber resource program, including advising State and private cooperators on the best forest practices to meet their land/timber management goals, assisting communities with development of viable, value-added forest product industries and projects, and monitor and inspect commercial timber harvest operations to insure compliance with Forestry Division statutes and regulations. The TMO prepares various grant applications and provides assistance with management of various grants. The TMO makes periodic project site visits to ensure compliance with forest management/stewardship practice plans and accomplishment of on-the-ground project goals. They provide forestry information to community members to advance understanding of natural resource management, wildfire management, and urban and community forestry activities. The TMO maintains NWCG wildland fire position qualifications and related physical fitness in order to participate in wildland fire assignments such as engine crew member or single resource.
