The Stewardship Forester position will serve as part of a team working on various forestry and wildlife habitat initiatives throughout the state. Initially the position will be focused on northern New Jersey landscapes with occasional work in southern New Jersey that may become more frequent over time.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Meet with private forest landowners to discuss management options in support of NJ Audubon’s wildlife habitat and forest health initiatives.
  • Assist government agency biologists and administrators with forest management projects.
  • Design forest inventories and collect forest vegetation data using standard methods and practices. As needed, provide oversight and direction to other staff assisting with forest inventory work.
  • Process and analyze field data. Prepare silvicultural prescriptions with an emphasis on forest health and wildlife habitat goals.
  • Prepare forest stewardship plans to meet standards established by the NJ Forest Service, the NJ Pinelands Commission, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
