Summary:
The Research Forester will be a critical member of a small land management team including AMC staff and Huber Resources Company (a consulting forestry company) supporting this complex and innovative long-term land stewardship effort. The position will be engaged in a wide range of land management activities including but not limited to forest management; FSC certification and carbon project oversight; easement holder relationships; habitat restoration; infrastructure (road and trail) design and maintenance; timber, carbon and ecological inventory; silvicultural and ecological research; data analysis and interpretation; engagement with outside partners and stakeholders; and member and guest education.
Job duties include:
- Assist with all aspects of MWI forest management, planning, and administration as needed.
- Oversee reporting, inventory, and verification requirements for forest carbon projects.
- Maintain GIS database and conduct GIS analyses to inform management strategies and projects.
- Help identify and promote opportunities for silvicultural and ecological research.
- Conduct trail surveys.
- Engage and utilize the AMC volunteer community in support projects.
- Assist in the development forestry-related educational materials; participate in educational programs and field tours as appropriate.
