Organization Summary:

The Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance (TERA) is a cross-cultural, multi-organizational collaborative that works to revitalize ecology, economy, and culture through indigenous-led stewardship.

The mission of TERA, founded in 2019, is to cultivate land stewardship, livelihood, and leadership skills that weave collaborative relationships between Tribal members and the community at large for the benefit of all lands and beings.

Position Summary:

The Fuels Captain will have significant experience in fuels management and be responsible for fostering the discipline and accountability needed for programmatic success while promoting the cultural and personal wellbeing of the TERA intertribal hand crew. The Fuels Captain serves as a Supervisor to the Crew Lead, who supervises five additional crew members.

Duties and responsibilities:

65% Oversee Effective Crew Operations Safety & Wellbeing of the Crew

  • Support the learning and professional development of crew. Develop personalized learning plans for crew consistent with individual needs and interests and program goals and capacity.
  • Support crew in developing their skills to educate and to lead in various settings, including with the broader Tribal community and the public.
  • Support crew in developing their ability to manage and lead volunteers.
  • Accompany TERA crew in the field, supporting their day-to-day work, helping to resolve problems and remove roadblocks, and ensuring that work is completed in an efficient, safe, and effective way.
  • Provide on-the-job training in the field for 6 – 20 TERA Crew members, including topics such as: chainsaw cutting, safety and technique; prescribed fire skills.
