The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is seeking individuals to assist in fire suppression work on forest fires and support prescribed burning. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, reside in the State of Wisconsin, and in good physical condition. A physical fitness test is a requirement for all firefighting employees. Work involves using pumps, fire hose, shovels, back cans, and other hand tools. You will be assigned to DNR engines and frequently working around DNR dozers. You will be assisting fulltime staff members in all work and there is no requirement to operate equipment. When not working on fires; the work involves building and grounds maintenance, equipment cleaning and maintenance, and project work.
These positions are limited term employment only. Most of the work will be in April and May and all work is weather dependent. Hours may vary from 4 hours a day to more than 16 hours depending on fire activity. The pay rate is $12.25/hour and overtime is at time and a half for any hours over 40 during the work week.
Successful applicants will be required to complete the federal firefighting courses S-130/S-190 & I-100/I-700, which will be offered at the end of March. The courses are time are paid for and are on work time.
