The Director of Research reports to the Deputy Commissioner for Conservation and Resource Stewardship and is charged with developing an agency framework and agenda for conducting and facilitating research that help DCR make informed decisions about current and future management of DCR’s natural and built infrastructure.

  • Create and manage networks and working groups across the agency to identify and understand research needs and ongoing partnerships to develop short- and long-term research agendas.
  • Actively review and share current research relevant to stewardship of natural and cultural resources and management of compatible recreational activities to address impacts of climate change, and best practices that may be appropriate for use on DCR properties.
  • Provide direction, guidance and expertise to staff in developing data sets and relevant research projects and marketing same to interested parties to conduct DCR driven data gathering, analysis and research projects.
  • Cultivate and actively solicit and work collaboratively with academic institutions and other organizations to partner on development of data sets, analysis, and research relevant to DCR’s priorities, the Commonwealth, and to the greater scientific community projects.
