The Director of Land Management leads a team in developing and executing strategies and plans for monitoring and maintenance of TNC’s preserves in Maine. An essential component of this task is to emphasize the convergence between ecological goals, climate resilience and adaptation, and diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities. The Director will also collaborate regularly with other chapter staff to contribute a unique and valuable perspective. Success in this position will be a team that has a positive work/life balance and executes and communicates a common strategic vision of excellent land management in harmony with natural and human communities, and in coordination with the entire Maine chapter.

Responsibilities and scope:

  • Responsible for oversight of the management and monitoring of TNC in Maine’s fee-owned lands and easements.
  • Collaboratively leads a team of permanent and seasonal land management staff, with responsibility for performance management, training and career development. Establish clear directions and set stretch objectives.
  • Co-creates a strategic vision for the chapter’s land management activities that includes connections to teams responsible for all other aspects of the chapter’s work.
  • Build enthusiasm for the chapter’s land holdings and land management work, and communicate the ecological, climate adaptation and community benefits both within the chapter and with donors, partners and the public.
