Summary:  The Clinch Valley Conservation Forestry Program Manager directs a comprehensive program that manages ~25,000 acres of conserved working forests in the Clinch Valley of Southwest Virginia.

Responsibilities include:

  • managing and maintaining the program’s compliance with certifications, audits, and verifications by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and California Air Resources Board (ARB),
  • achieving annual revenue goals through sustainable timber harvesting and carbon credit sales,
  • designing, marketing, and overseeing timber sales and harvests in coordination with local contractors, loggers, and mills,
  • managing positive relationships with landowners enrolled and/or interested in the program,
  • securing grants and other funding for ecological restoration projects, and
  • supervising other staff and volunteers.

The position also collaborates with a multi-state team of TNC foresters working across the Central Appalachians of VA, TN, KY, and WV to advance innovative approaches to sustainable timber management, forest conservation, forest carbon offsets, and ecosystem restoration on private and public forestlands.
