DESCRIPTION:Registration is closed $20\, or free for students. \nIf you have registered\, but have not received an email with a welcome and the event’s join instructions\, please email colleen@forestguild.org right away.  \nMarch 30 – April 1\n4:00 – 6:00 p.m. PT (each day) \nAgenda \nFocus: This Summit is a venue for regional learning\, exchange\, and ongoing cooperation to implement ecological forest management strategies. The Summit’s programs will focus on sustainable\, forest-related innovation – past\, present\, and future. \nPurpose: The Pacific Northwest region benefits from a long\, deep\, and often underappreciated history of experimentation and innovation in its forest sector. Current challenges call us to better understand both current and past examples of forestry innovation\, and to chart a course for improving sustainable forest management through partnerships and problem solving. \nLogistics: This first NIFS will take place virtually March 30-April 1\, 2021. Each day will include a series of themed presentations and discussions from 4:00 – 6:00 pm for partners to share their approaches to modern ecological forestry. The event will start by featuring stories of innovation from around the region\, highlighting the successes\, challenges\, and opportunities that land managers and other forestry and natural resources professionals are engaged in across Oregon and Washington. All members of the forestry and affiliated communities are invited to contribute to the Summit by sharing their experience and questions. \nAction: Please register early. To solve the climate crisis\, we need a portfolio of options\, each of which carries a different set of carbon values\, co-benefits\, and risks. No one approach is risk-free in the context of global change\, or in the constantly-shifting global wood product markets. \nIn this webinar on the science of carbon forestry\, we will explore the multiple co-benefits of well-managed forests and examine the nuances behind applying these concepts to forests over the long term. \nPresenters: \nDr. Bill Keeton is a Professor of Forest Ecology and Forestry at the University of Vermont’s Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. Dr. Keeton researches forest ecosystem sustainability through the lenses of forest carbon management\, climate change mitigation\, natural disturbance ecology and silviculture\, and the structure and function of old-growth and riparian forests. \nDr. John Gunn is a Research Assistant Professor of Forest Management at the University of New Hampshire and Executive Director of the nonprofit Spatial Informatics Group – Natural Assets Laboratory (SIG-NAL).
