DESCRIPTION:Register Limited to 30 attendees \nJune 2\, 2023\n8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. \nLocation: Forest Grove\, OR (off Hwy 6). The event address will be shared after registration.  \nApproved for: \n\n3 Cat.1 SAF (Society of American Foresters) Credits.\n1 CEU in Category I of the Certified Wildlife Biologist®/Professional Development Certificate Program\n3 CEU from ISA (International Society of Arboriculture)\n\nOther credits pending. \nJoin us for Forestry for the Birds Western Oregon Guide. We will be joined by a wildlife biologist\, Nicole Ruggiero from Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District and forester from Trout Mountain Forestry to help demonstrate the Guide and identify birds and habitat preferences.   \n This Guide was developed in part to act as a communication tool to assist foresters\, natural resource managers and practitioners when discussing with landowners how to support a healthy forest with birds in mind. We will review the Guide while walking through various stands and habitats. We will learn more about the focal birds within the Guide\, bird habitat preferences\, identify associated understory species\, and how forest structure and variability play a vital role in supporting desirable habitat for different bird species\, as well as a healthy and functional forest.   \nWe look forward to meeting you\, hearing about your management efforts\, projects\, and wildlife and bird observations! Please bring questions\, curiosity\, and binoculars if you have them. DESCRIPTION:Register ($35) \nSaturday\, June 3\n5:30 – 10:45 a.m. (ET) \nStone Fence Farm\, 64 Johnson Mountain Road\, Unity\, NH 03743\nOptional camping onsite and pizza dinner on Friday. \nContinuing education credits for foresters are available. \nJoin Phil Brown\, Matt Tarr\, and others for a morning of birding and learning at Stone Fence Farm\, a property owned and managed for a diversity of native species by professional foresters and Guild members Jeremy Turner and Laura French. Through slow walking tours in a variety of field\, forest\, and wetland habitats\, we’ll learn tips for identifying the birds we encounter by sight and sound; the ecology and habitat needs of those species; and how the forests\, fields\, and wetlands we see can be managed to enhance habitat for birds and other wildlife. In between walks\, we’ll take a break to enjoy wood-fired fruit pies and shade-grown coffee. Beginning birders welcome! \nBring binoculars and your favorite field guide to birds\, and come prepared for biting insects. \nThis second annual event at Stone Fence Farm is co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education\, UNH Cooperative Extension\, and Meadowsend Consulting Company.

DESCRIPTION:Register today! \nSaturday\, June 3\, 2023\n9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time \nThe Welcome Center at Hidden Valley Nature Center\n131 Egypt Road Jefferson\, ME\, 04348 \nPlease join Sally Stockwell of Maine Audubon and Guild member Logan Johnson to learn how to manage forestlands to enhance habitat for birds and other wildlife. We will discuss the importance of Maine forestlands for breeding birds\, brook trout\, and other wildlife. We will practice completing some simple bird habitat assessments and look at several harvesting strategies used at Hidden Valley that demonstrate what you can do in your own woodland or on land trust properties and community forests to enhance habitat. \nPlease wear good walking shoes and bring water\, a snack\, a raincoat\, and your curiosity. \nRain date: June 4 \nThis is a free event\, but registration is required and capacity is limited to the first 25 registrants.
