SUMMARY:Making FSC certification more accessible to community forests and family forests
DESCRIPTION:Registration closed on July 17 \nJuly 18 – 20\, 2023\n8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. first two days and 8:00 a.m. to Noon on third day \nBreakfasts and lunches are provided. Participants are responsible for their own travel\, lodging and dinner expenses. \nAloft Minneapolis\, 900 Washington Avenue South\, Minneapolis\, MN 55415 \nThis workshop has been awarded 13.5 hours of Cat 1 CFE credits through the Society of American Foresters. \nAgenda for download \nThe Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) sets standards for responsible forest management and manages a global voluntary certification system that allows manufacturers and consumers of forest products to directly contribute to the health of forests and forest communities. FSC is hosting a free workshop to share resources to help family and community forest managers achieve greater value from FSC certification. \nWith a focus on existing tools and needs for additional support\, the workshop will offer practical ways to improve the opportunities FSC offers to community and family woodlands. Whether you’re a group manager\, consulting forester\, forest owner or forest manager\, FSC encourages you to participate in this free in-person workshop. \nThe event will also offer a good opportunity to connect with peers about shared challenges facing small\, low-intensity managed forests. \nForests meeting one or more of the following criteria are eligible for the resources and tools that will be introduced in the workshop: \n\nForests smaller than 2\,471 acres (1\,000 hectares; any ownership)\nThe rate of harvesting is less than 20% of the mean annual increment (MAI) and EITHER a) the annual harvest is less than 1379.5 cords; OR b) the average annual harvest is less than 1379.5 cords/year during a 5-year cycle (any ownership)\nOnly non-timber forest products are collected or harvested (any ownership)\nBoth: a) the legal right to manage the forest is held at communal level; AND b) the members of the community actively manage the forest or have authorized someone else to manage it\n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact Amy Clark Eagle (a.eagle@us.fsc.org)
